Triumph Spitfire Information

Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Spitfire was released in 1962, based heavily on the Triumph Herald. With the chassis, suspension and 1147cc engine all from the Herald, the Triumph Spitfire was lightweight and relatively low cost to produce. The low overheads were needed in the production of the Triumph Spitfire to ensure the sports car could compete on retail price with the much popular Austin Healey Sprite, an affordable sports car.
